Called the "Daytona 500 of USA Beach Wrestling," the Carolina Beach Nationals & World Team Qualifier is one of the biggest beach wrestling events of the year. Wrestlers from across the country are heading to Carolina Beach, NC this May for national titles, World Team qualifying spots, and — for young athletes — a shot at qualifying for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.
If you're an athlete, coach, parent, or spectator making the trip to Carolina Beach for the first time, here's everything you need to know — schedule, parking, hotels, food, and what to do between matches.
When and Where
Dates: Friday, May 8 – Saturday, May 9, 2026 Venue: Carolina Beach Boardwalk, Carolina Beach Ave S, Carolina Beach, NC 28428
Carolina Beach is about 20 minutes south of downtown Wilmington and 30 minutes from Wilmington International Airport (ILM). The actual competition happens on the sand right off the boardwalk — which means spectators get to watch from the boardwalk itself or from the beach.
Why This Event Matters
This isn't just a fun sand tournament. The Carolina Beach Nationals are a World Team Qualifier for multiple divisions:
- U15, U17, U20, and Senior athletes compete for spots on the U.S. Beach Wrestling World Team
- Youth Olympics qualifier for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal — beach wrestling is the only wrestling style on the Youth Olympic program, a major step toward potential full Olympic inclusion
- Top 50 Challenge series points for North Carolina wrestlers
- National titles across all age divisions
Translation: the best of the best will be on the sand. Great wrestling to watch, even if you don't know the sport.
