Traveling in for the Carolina Beach Wrestling Nationals? Here's what you need to know about hotels, vacation rentals, and where to book - whether you're an athlete, coach, or family making a weekend of it.

The Official Host Hotels

The tournament negotiated group rates at three hotels. Cutoff dates for discounted rates have mostly passed, but rooms may still be available at standard rates - and they're all solid options regardless.

Courtyard by Marriott Carolina Beach Oceanfront

Why it's the pick: It's the official host hotel, directly on the beach, steps from the boardwalk where competition takes place. You could literally roll out of bed and be at the sand circle in five minutes. It's also the only oceanfront Marriott in North Carolina.

  • Group rate was $259/night (cutoff April 8)
  • Standard rates will be higher - check availability
  • Reservation code: WBNS | Phone: 888-616-4655
  • Check current rates on Booking.com

Best for: Athletes who want zero commute stress on competition day. Families who want beach access without driving.

Golden Sands Carolina Beach Oceanfront (Tapestry by Hilton)

Located at 1211 S. Lake Park Blvd. Home to Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar, which means dinner is downstairs.

Best for: Families who want a quieter spot with on-site dining. The Ocean Grill pier has great views.

DoubleTree by Hilton Wilmington

About 15 miles from Carolina Beach at 5032 Market St. Wilmington's newest Hilton with an on-site restaurant (Coast Bar & Grill), lobby Starbucks, indoor pool, and 24/7 market.

Best for: Coaches or families who want more restaurant and nightlife options nearby. Downtown Wilmington has way more going on than Carolina Beach after dark. Trade-off: 20-minute drive to the tournament each morning.

Other Carolina Beach Hotels

Carolina Beach has smaller oceanfront hotels that are often cheaper than the big chains and closer to the action:

  • The Savannah Inn - Oceanfront, one block from the boardwalk
  • The Boardwalk Inn - Private beach area, walking distance to everything
  • The Beach House - Oceanfront at 412 Carolina Beach Avenue North
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Carolina Beach Oceanfront - Reliable chain with direct beach access

Vacation Rentals

VRBO has solid inventory in Carolina Beach, especially houses that can sleep a whole wrestling family (or two). Benefits: usually cheaper per person than hotels, especially for groups. Kitchen access means you can meal prep - critical for wrestlers managing weight.

Stay in Wilmington Instead

If Carolina Beach is booked or too pricey, Wilmington is about 20 minutes north and has way more hotel inventory. You'll have a short drive each morning but more restaurant and entertainment options at night.

Tips for Wrestling Families

Book early. Carolina Beach is a small town. Event weekends plus the start of beach season means hotels fill up fast.

Consider location vs. convenience. Staying at the Courtyard Marriott means your athlete can walk to weigh-ins and competition with zero stress. Staying in Wilmington means more to do at night but adds a commute and parking headache. For athletes competing, proximity wins.

Kitchen access matters for wrestlers. If your athlete is cutting weight or has specific nutrition needs, a vacation rental with a kitchen is worth the trade-off vs. a hotel. Grocery stores in Carolina Beach are limited - stock up at Harris Teeter or Walmart in Wilmington on the way in.

Book for the social too. Friday night's coach and competitor social is at Lazy Pirate Sports Bar. Saturday's post-tournament party is at Good Hops Brewing (811 Harper Ave). Both are in Carolina Beach. If you're staying in Wilmington, you'll be driving back and forth.

Need a room for just Friday night? If your athlete weighs in Friday, a one-night stay in Carolina Beach lets them weigh in stress-free, attend the social, and wake up Saturday already at the beach.
