Carolina Beach parking stresses people out more than it should. Here's how it actually works - rates, where to go, what to avoid, and a few tricks the locals use.

This guide covers parking year-round, not just for a specific event. Whether you're here for the Air Show, the Wrestling Nationals, a Saturday beach day, or just Britt's Donuts - the system is the same.

The Basics

Paid parking is enforced March 1 through October 31, from 9 AM to 8 PM daily. Outside those dates and hours, parking is free.

Payment is through the ParkMobile app or at pay stations in the lots. Download the app before you arrive - fumbling with the pay station in the sun while your kids melt down is not the move.

Parking is managed by Pivot Parking (910-458-4614, office at 1708 Canal Drive). Handicap spaces are free with a valid placard displayed.

Current Rates

Type Hourly Daily Max
Town parking lots $6/hour $25/day
Premium lots (boardwalk-adjacent) $7/hour $35/day
On-street parking $5/hour No daily rate
Bus, limo, oversized $10/hour $40/day
Weekly visitor pass - $100/week

The weekly pass is available at Town Hall, the Parking Office, or online. If you're staying more than three days, it pays for itself.

Important: On-street parking has no daily rate cap. If you park on-street all day, you're paying $5/hour for every hour. That's $55 for 9 AM to 8 PM. Use the lots instead.

Where to Park: The Real Breakdown

Boardwalk-Adjacent Lots (Premium)

The lots closest to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk are premium ($7/hour, $35/day). They fill up first - on summer weekends and event days, they're typically full by 10-11 AM.

If you arrive before 10 AM on a busy day, you might get a spot. After that, don't even bother circling. You'll burn 30 minutes and gas for nothing.

Town Lots (Standard)

A few blocks further from the boardwalk. $6/hour or $25/day. These are your best bet for a full-day visit - cheaper than premium, still a reasonable walk.

On-Street Parking

Scattered throughout town. $5/hour with no daily cap. Good for a quick 1-2 hour stop. Terrible for an all-day visit.

The overlooked spots: side streets away from Lake Park Boulevard often have open spaces when the lots near the boardwalk are packed. Walk a few extra blocks, save the headache.

Event Day Parking Strategy

Carolina Beach hosts several major events each year - the Air Show, Wrestling Nationals, concerts, Fourth of July, and more. Event days are a different animal.

Arrive before 10 AM. This is not a suggestion. Boardwalk-adjacent lots fill by mid-morning on event days. Town lots fill by noon. After that you're parking half a mile out and walking.

Park once and stay. If you find a spot, don't give it up thinking you'll find a closer one later. You won't. Pay the daily rate, park it, forget it.

Consider parking in Kure Beach. Kure Beach sits directly south of Carolina Beach on the same island. Parking is sometimes easier there, and it's a short walk or drive up to the boardwalk. During some events, Kure Beach waives paid parking enforcement.

The local move: Park further out - anything within a half-mile of the boardwalk is still an easy walk. A 10-minute walk beats a 45-minute traffic crawl every time. Bring comfortable shoes and skip the parking anxiety.

Tips Nobody Tells You

The ParkMobile app lets you extend your time remotely. If you paid for 2 hours and decide to stay longer, you can add time from your phone without walking back to the car.

Parking enforcement is real. Carolina Beach takes parking seriously - they ticket and they tow. Don't risk an expired meter or an illegal spot. Heck, you might even get a ticket when you shouldn't. To dispute a citation, just follow the instructions on the ticket or call 910-458-4614.

Bring cash for Britt's Donuts. Not a parking tip, but if you're walking from a parking lot past Britt's Donuts on the boardwalk and you don't have cash, you'll hate yourself. Cash only, always.
