Fireworks over the Cape Fear River at Waterfront Park at 9 PM on July 4, the finale of the NC 4th of July Festival. The festival runs June 27 through July 4 and draws 40,000 to 50,000 people to Southport. All festival events are free and open to the public.
Parking is free but very limited near the main venues. A free festival trolley runs from Southport Elementary (701 W. 9th St.) into downtown on July 2 through 4. The last Fort Fisher ferry back leaves at 6:15 PM on Saturdays, before the fireworks, so pedestrians and cyclists who ferried over will not have a ride back after the show.
