Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens

224 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, Wilmington

About

Wilmington's only colonial house museum and one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in North Carolina. Built in 1770 on an abandoned jail foundation, it served as British General Cornwallis's headquarters during the Revolutionary War. Guided tours show restored period rooms with authentic furnishings. The terraced 18th-century-style gardens behind the house are worth exploring. Tours Tuesday-Saturday, about 45 minutes to an hour.
