Airlie Gardens is a stunning 67-acre public garden dating back to 1886. The star attraction is the magnificent Airlie Oak, a Southern live oak over 460 years old. In spring, more than 100,000 azaleas burst into bloom, and the seasonal Butterfly House (May-September) lets you walk among hundreds of free-flying butterflies. Popular events include summer concerts and the beloved Enchanted Airlie holiday lights in December. Open daily 9am-5pm (closed Mondays Jan-Feb). General admission $10, New Hanover residents $5, military $5, children 4-12 $3, under 3 free. First Sunday monthly is free for county residents.
